Zoo’s can be quite a controversial subject, especially for animal lovers, however this Zoo is home to previously mistreated or injured animals that have been rescued and brought to Zoo De Castellar to start a new life. Some of the areas the animals live in may be a little on the small side however the volunteers have done the very best with the resources that they could find to set up this beautifully ran rescue centre.
Visitors are encouraged to feed the birds and pet panthers, moneys. leopards and honey bears to name just a few.
If you’re lucky you may also get chance to visit the vets clinic for newborn animals. Staff are welcoming and knowledgeable and all clearly have the animal’s best interests at heart.
The only small downside is that the cafe isn’t great so if you have small children or plan to be at the zoo for a while take a packed lunch with you.
Zoo de Castellar receives no government assistance and survives on donations, sponsorship and entrance fees so every visitor helps to create a better life for the zoo’s rescued inhabitants.

Dolphin Safari tours run seven days a week and are one of the longest running dolphin tours in Gibraltar.
The trips are usually between 1 – 1 and a half hours depending on where you’re headed to find the last pod sighting.
The company reports on their website at the end of every day stating whether their trips saw dolphins that day and is one of the only companies in Gibraltar that does this in order to prove their success rate.
These trips are great for children and adults and are an amazing opportunity to see dolphins in their natural habitat. The company even combines tickets that include a trip to the top of the rock to see the monkeys!
